Callixta eyed Søren as if to say, Really? You are better off? You realize you are technically dead, right? But instead, the even expression returned as the other Councilor continued to talk. Still, they were both on the same page. If they were going to finish this it needed to happen quickly. Otherwise, they needed to cut their losses and retreat back to the Tower. The mage watched as Søren's eyes finally began to look more like their customary red rather than the milky white of the undead.
"Dealing with him on my own is the only safe bet in terms of ensuring someone is able to report back to the Tower. No matter what is decided that much must happen. I have little doubt the Tower is aware of our location, but I'm also sure you've noticed we've not gotten any backup: they won't send us reinforcements. We're just too far outside the Grid." Callixta cut in, but lapsed into silence when the former Guardian continued, then nodded when she agreed the mage should track them and return when she found the final exchange. The slightly taller woman straightened when Søren moved closer, but remained still when the other woman reached for her. The corners of her mouth curled into a light smirk when she expressed regret at the mage's impromptu haircut. Her gloved left hand reached to catch Søren's wrist as she touched her own brand new lock of perfect white, moving closer so that when the former Guardian's hand skimmed down the center of her chest Callixta could press a chaste kiss to the other woman's open palm.
Despite that she'd said nothing about it the mage was thoroughly relieved that Søren had survived the green woman so well. She could admit that she'd been worried for a moment. . .
Callixta nodded curtly and stepped back, releasing the other Councilor's hand before she simply melted away.

Søren smirked as her companion disappeared. Despite how dire the previous situation had been, the Fifth District Counselor didn’t share Callixta’s sense of pessimism. Of course, it was possible that the now-officially-alive-again Søren was just high from the immense uptake of life energy she had just managed to enact, but the former Guardian did tend to, despite appearances on the Council as to otherwise, act as the sunshine to Callixta’s cloudy day.
As Søren took further stock of her current situation, the former Guardian also began to consider the ramifications of her outward-presenting self. For one, Søren suddenly had a need to reach her communique, which was comfortably stored underneath layers of black metal magic armor. Second, the former Guardian wanted to take the opportunity, while she was rebuilding herself essentially from the ground-up anyway, to make a few changes to her physique and outward appearance. Usually Søren modified her ‘look’ on a fairly regular basis, but it had been a number of years since she had done a whole-body overhaul: given that it would be at least a few minutes of peace and quiet while Callixta was blood-hounding after their foes, the former Guardian decided it was a perfect time to get busy on some biological remodeling.
Now that her eyes were healed enough that the majority of her fine vision had returned, Søren closed her eyes to block out visual stimulus and instead focus on what was happening inside her body. Moving from the outside in, the Counselor forced more Ether into the metallic armor covering her slight frame, weaving ‘fibers’ of the energy into the metal in order to use them as a catalyst to change the armor’s rigid composition. As the minutes passed, the external armor began to shift and change, morphing from black, rigid plates into a more flexible, interlocking scale pattern that fit more tightly to the woman’s torso and created details and etchings that gave the armor a personally-crafted appearance, complete with silver chain-scales covering any ‘open’ portions of her body and a draping shawl-like pauldron configuration that gave the Counselor’s entire upper back, neck, shoulders and upper arms flexible protection. Once the shifting of the armor had finished, the garment would be custom tailored, highly detailed, and fir the woman like the second skin it actually was.
Having finished with the armor, Søren used her shifting abilities to alter the composition of her body, minutely thickening and expanding her musculature while subtly lengthening the long bones of her legs and arms, causing her petite frame to rise to the level of 5’7” instead of the 5’5” she had been previously and expanding the girth and tone of her body, specifically her legs. The woman would be lying if she said that her opponent from moments ago hadn’t been some inspiration for the changes: while not nearly to that extreme, Søren didn’t hesitate to take on a more athletic and muscular appearance underneath her armor while simultaneously resolving to spend more time in Spec Ops doing hand-to-hand combat and weapons training. After a few long minutes of intense focus, the important changes were complete, and Søren could begin to get down to more situation-related business.
Reaching into a tightly sealed, newly-created pouch at her armor’s belt, Søren retrieved her communique, which had migrated there specifically during the armor’s transition, and carefully slid it open. While Callixta might have been pessimistic about getting support from the Tower, Søren herself was less so, especially now that they had their quarry on the run. Initially, had it been a trap, Alpha wouldn’t have committed anyone extra so that the Tower’s overall risk was minimal. Now that it had been demonstrated that a trap was unlikely and Callixta and Søren had their foes on the run, the Magistrate might be much more likely to send support. Therefore, Søren quickly composed a message to Raife, Alpha’s personal assistant, to ensure that the message was delivered where it needed to go.
Unknown male captured and secured by Callixta, female (apparent leader) and Marru'Khyran on the run, with Callixta pursuing. Intend to follow for more intel when trail is located. Awaiting further instructions, will report new location when available
Søren quickly clicked ‘send’ and stashed the tiny messaging device back at her belt, feeling satisfied that the wording of her communication would be interpreted appropriately by its reader. With her primary objectives done, and now only healing and waiting ahead of her until Callixta returned, Søren glanced around her immediate location, scanning the snow at her feet until her vision stopped on a glinting object sticking out of a drift immediately behind her. A smirk slowly inched its way onto the Counselor’s face as she leaned down to pick up the object, straitening once she got a grip and raising it in front of her face for inspection.
The fighter had lost her weapon, apparently, in all the commotion: the object was like an uncrossed sword hilt, a silver, metallic cylinder that seemed to be a hybrid between organic, tree-root-like construction and simple metal manufacturing. Having seen it in action, Søren took her time examining the weapon, slowly rolling it between her fingers as she detailed its every crease and edge. Carefully, the former Guardian extended some of her Ether into the weapon casing to see if it would activate, but nothing happened: there were energy pathways built in to the weapon that could act as a focus, but those pathways could apparently only be activated by the particular energy of the weapon’s owner. A pity, considering that Søren would have thoroughly enjoyed facing off with the woman again holding her own sword, but the Counselor was also sure that she herself would not be nearly as skilled with the weapon as her opponent had. Carefully, Søren tucked the weapon into her belt and turned her mind to other things, vowing to explore the weapon more later. For now, the former Guardian carefully knelt in the snow and closed her eyes, returning her mind to the task of healing.
With any luck Callixta wouldn’t take too long to find them, but Søren also wouldn’t mind if the other Counselor took extra time to be sure she was right: the more minutes that Søren had with which to recharge, the better off they would both be later on.

The Sixth District Councilor only got a few minutes of quiet before it was rudely interrupted by a new arrival. Heralded by a message from Raife or not, a new, highly excitable being suddenly popping out of nowhere next to you tended to be a disconcerting experience, so an objective observer, especially one of nightmare status, wouldn’t be surprised if Søren Kiirkegré jumped when the bounding body of the diminutive Rivea suddenly launched itself out of literal nothingness and skidded to a short stop inches in front of the Death Knight Councilor.
“Auntie Sor-Sor! Is that you?”
Without ado, the woman’s fingers would immediately reach forward and tug on the new white streak in the former Guardian’s hair, her partially perplexed expression showing genuine mystification as she examined Søren’s recent cosmetic changes. Rivea herself would be unchanged from the last time the Councilor had seen her, save that she was wearing dark green tactical pants instead of grey ones, and her tank top was black instead of brown. The woman’s short, brown hair was pulled into a high ponytail that bounced behind her head with each jerky, fast movement, and her dark eyes shined like black coals as she continued to examine Søren, the darkness against her milky-brown skin and silvery, winding tattoos making her appear, at close glance, distinctly otherworldly.
“You look so tough! Are you taller? I think you’re taller!”
Rivea would beam at her ‘auntie,’ even as a chilling, disembodied voice echoed from the dark space of air behind her.
”Good thing I brought Drænník’s little weapon, isn’t it? Her childish mind will no doubt be tactically superior to yours when it comes to apprehending a few troublemakers.”
A cackling laughter echoed after the words, causing Rivea to furrow her brow and pout.
“Quiet, bug lady!”
The Nightmare’s words might have prompted a response from Søren, but intent on getting the proverbial last laugh, Zenethrakarna’s presence would already be gone by the time the Councilor could open her mouth to snap back, leaving Søren alone in the snowy hills with Rivea, who had already promptly plopped down into the white powder around her feet to start carving figures out of the deep snow fall. Rivea, as always, would await acknowledgement from Søren, but already she was acclimating herself to her new surroundings. She had been passed a message from Drænník by Zenethrakarna, to follow Søren’s directions and help her and Callixta take care of some bad people. It had been a few weeks since Rivea had last been sent on assignment, so the Operative certainly didn’t complain about getting to go out, especially with Søren, who she adored. Making an incredibly dense snowball between her gloved hands, Rivea would beam up at Søren and wait to be acknowledged – she was looking forward to the next few hours immensely.

Søren was just beginning to feel whole again when she felt her communikay buzz in her pocket with Raife’s response to her early report. Carefully, the Councilor opened her eyes and stood fully again, brushing snow from her black armor as she did and giving her body a once-over. Primarily, the woman felt healed, but Søren recognized that it was difficult to tell if she was still injured or not since the normal pain signals of her body were being totally drowned out by the intense thrum of the life energy contained within her physical shell. The new level of power would take some time to get used to, but, given her current situation, the drastic change it brought was something of a windfall for the Councilor. Honestly, if she had realized what an efficient power source Ether could be, she would have had Callixta procure her some a long, long time ago.
Flipping out her communikay, Søren scanned Raife’s message with pursed lips. The fact that they were so ready, now that those the Councilors were pursuing were more fugitive than enemy combatant, to send reinforcements was a good thing, but the fact that they wouldn’t have done so without the Marru’Khyran and his beefy overseer on the run irked Søren in no small amount, even though she recognized it as the best tactical decision. She scanned the message several times as she tried to puzzle out who they would send, but as she was about to close the device and put it back away, a follow-up message arrived with an addendum.
Capture Dragos Syrkhan.
Capture? Søren shook her head. Of course: He was a Syrkhan, some kind of prince in Marru’Khyr, which meant his death could have political ramifications. And, considering Floraelia had been in trade negotiations with the Empire, little Dragos’ death might cause those negotiations to break down. The Sixth District Councilor tapped a quick reply to Raife and slid the little device back in her pocket.
’Acknowledged. Will follow up with more updates as available.’
That handled, Søren decided to turn her attention to the weapon she had recovered from the female attacker. Pulling it from her belt and turning it over in her hand, Søren tried to examine it and see what made it function while she waited for her inevitable reinforcements to arrive, or for Callixta to return with information on where the two had run off to, whichever came first.
The Councilor didn’t have to wait long for reinforcements: Rivea appeared within the next five minutes, and much to Zenethrakarna’s inevitable delight, the beast’s pop[ping up from nowhere did cause Søren to jump and half drop into a defensive stance before she realized what was going on. When Rivea started talking, Søren visibly relaxed: the girl was odd, of course, but ‘Auntie Sor-Sor’ had always had a good relationship with Drænník’s other half, and therefore when Rivea reached for her hair, Søren returned the motion in kind and stroked the girl’s head kindly.
”I did get taller – and I think you’ve gotten even prettier since the last time I saw you, Rivea. Is your Dai’shin still taking good care of you?”
The made-up word that Rivea used for her master meant something akin to ‘father’ or ‘lover’, though which one seemed to depend more on the moment and the context of the sentence it was being uttered in. Søren never bothered to wonder at their relationship, since unlike Drænník ‘s other creations, Rivea always seemed genuinely happy to be under the dark mage’s thumb. Besides, the Operative Commander had learned several years back that there were few better weapons to have at your side in a pinch than Rivea, and therefore she made sure to go out of her way to keep her relationship with both the girl and her master intact and pleasant.
Ignoring Zenethrakarna’s little quip, as she usually did, Søren kept her attention on Rivea, returning the weapon hilt back to her belt in order to address the girl as she sat herself in the snow.
”I’m glad you’re here, little Rivea – one of the fugitives we are after is quite tough, and in order to accomplish our mission, I’m going to need you to do your best to subdue her. She’s fast, but I know you can handle it.”
Søren smirked to herself slightly – their odds had improved, so long as she could keep Rivea from creating collateral damage at too high a degree. However, the Councilor also knew that Rivea was there so that if damage had to be dealt, the Councilors themselves could have plausible deniability: Rivea was a ghost, and had often acted as a lone interloper in situations where marked members of the Magisterium couldn’t be seen directly.
”As soon as Callixta gets back, we’ll get on our way.”

The Fifth District Councilor stepped lightly onto the snow, taking note that the sun had set completely. It was a surreal thing, to be in the Jiv'undus Mountains when it was dark like this― the only real light shining from the titanic metropolis that was Vascxious Sigma. The pollution from the light and haze of the Trade City was enough that it was difficult to see the stars. Truthfully, it even reflected off the snow enough to create a serene ambiance that was less difficult to see in than Callixta expected.
The petite mage took a moment to look down at the ridge below, where she'd left Søren and then surveyed where Viers said he'd dropped his weapon in the skirmish between himself and Kauvrian and Syrkhan. Her jaw tightened. Amber eyes swept the area intently, but saw no sign of the white cloth or really any anomaly that would point to the weapon Viers wanted to retrieve. The man had said the weapon was constructed of darksteel with a crystal core.
Callixta sighed and shook her head. Another glance was cast at the ridge below before the mage raised both hands. A small amount of ether was bled from her internal store and forced outward, encouraged to decompress into more easily accessible energy. As efficiently as Callixta was able, she focused and shifted the ether-based energy into electrical energy, spreading her hands wide as the snaps and crackles above her were reigned in and controlled by her magic to form currents. Visually, what the mage was able to accomplish in a very short time was rather remarkable. There were suddenly visible currents of electricity holding shape with apparently invisible support and running in the same direction.
A low rumble could be heard and the ground beneath her began to tremble as the currents flowed quicker and more potently, forming a fairly powerful magnetic field over the entire area. Callixta's teeth grit. The weapon should be pulled up fairly soon― she wouldn't be able to risk keeping the field active on top of a mountain for very long if she wanted to be sure not to endanger Søren. She could feel the ground beginning to shake as whatever was attracted to the magnetic field was forced to tear up through the ground. Snow began to spray and the rumble rose in volume. Just when the mage was ready to give it up and disperse the electrical energy she saw a white sail in her peripheral vision. The mage let out a slow breath and began to lower her hands. Above her, the tight coils of electrical current began to slow as the energy was shifted back to a raw state. To be fair, some of it simply bled off in the transition process, but the majority of it was re-compressed into a smaller amount of ether and returned to her internal store. It was an inefficient method, but effective nonetheless.
The mountain's rumbling finally stopped as her boots crunched toward where she'd seen the white cloth. A gloved hand closed around the middle of the weapon and the mage's lips curled into a satisfied smirk. The sword was eyed critically before Callixta gave it a gentle tap, securing it off-plane where she could store it safely until she was ready to retrieve it: no point in keeping it on her person when it could possibly become lost to her. At least that was taken care of.
The small-framed figure turned, vanishing into the darkness above and stepping out of the darkness below, where Søren should still be waiting. The mage's approach was silent as amber eyes adjusted to the light level change and sought out the other Councilor.

The Unmade visibly lit up when Søren responded to her, and she didn’t hardly let the Sixth District Councilor get her words out before Rivea excitedly responded.
“I knew it! You look so great, I wish I could get taller! Dai’shin takes great care of me . . . ‘cept I haven’t gotten to get out much lately.”
Rivea pouted slightly as she made small creatures in the snow, meticulously building the vaguely humanoid shapes until they were formed enough for her to crush back into powder. She had been stuck in the Obscurity a lot lately. It wasn’t that she didn’t love Drænník’s company, but Rivea had noticed how distracted Dai’shin had been lately. Usually, when he was busy, the mage let Rivea out on her own to play, or at least brought her someone knew to toy around with so that she didn’t get bored. Lately, newcomers were hard to come by, and when visitors did stop by, they weren’t much fun – like that Odette, who just didn’t want to play.
The Unmade grinned up at Søren from her place in the snow, legs splayed out unceremoniously. She was glad to be useful to her ‘Auntie,’ – the Councilor always made a point to be kind to Rivea, and she was sooo pretty.
“I’ll squish her down – no worries, Auntie Sor-Sor.”
Rivea made a very clear pile-driving motion with her fist as she spoke, her sharp canines showing and her eyes widening as she grinned ferally up at her current overseer. As she spoke, she noticed that the white-haired Callixta had appeared magically behind Søren, and without saying anything, Rivea waved, carefully popping herself back up onto her feet after doing so. The Unmade had always liked the windy, sinewey twins Callixta used to be, but this new Callixta always had a grumpy face on, as far as Rivea was concerned. Checking herself over quickly, Rivea pulled her corset top down just to her bellybutton and checked her gloves, the dark blue, winding tattoos covering her bare arms and face glittering in the moonlight that was reflected off the snow.
“I’m ready anytime; I can’t wait to go on our adventure!”

Søren smirked slightly as Rivea described her plight – while it might have seemed to be an injustice to the girl that she was kept in isolation far more than she was allowed out in the open, on assignment or not, the Councilor knew that Drænník had been asked specifically by Alpha to keep his favorite creation on a very, very short leash. Unsupervised, Rivea could very quickly create a great deal of havoc, and a few previous instances of her being on her own in other nations had brought about very troublesome situations that the Tower then had to deal with directly. Søren could see Rivea’s side of the situation, but it was far safer for the Magisterium’s operations for her to be an indoor pet rather than a roaming one. As it was, Søren and Callixta were going to have to tread carefully in order to keep the level of collateral damage low – Rivea had a way of getting out of hand the second that her chaperone looked away.
”I’m sure its just because Drænník wants you all to himself, darling.”
A rumbling from the nearby ridge snapped Søren’s gaze away from the Operative as she was expressing her desire to begin their ‘adventure,’ however: the Councilor expected that Callixta should have been back already, and though her intuition didn’t cause her to jump to the conclusion that the Fifth District Councilor was in trouble – Callixta would simply blink out of the space if she were suddenly in danger- but that didn’t mean she wasn’t suddenly concerned for her friend. Calling up a small amount of her Ether, Søren stretched out with her senses by sending a very faint pulse of energy echoing across the landscape. The faint blue wave slid over the snow like a rushing tide, mapping the nearby topography and transmitting a rough outline of what it saw to Søren’s connected mind.
Suddenly, with greater clarity, an image of the planar mage popped into her mind as the wave reached the ridge, and Søren sighed lightly in relief: Callixta was alone, and seemingly focused on something magical in nature. Trusting in the woman’s ability, Søren decided to leave well enough alone until the Councilor rejoined her, which turned out to be sooner rather than later: sensing her approach by the sudden disruptions of space in her periphery, the Sixth District head turned slowly toward her compatriot and smirked.
”You’ve had some luck, I hope?” The Operative Commander gestured in Rivea’s direction as the woman finished brushing herself off and checking her body over for stray snow. ”Alpha has sent us the best reinforcements available. And, instructions: we’re supposed to capture the Marru’Khyran. No specific instructions on the other one.”
With any luck, Rivea’s addition to the situation would act to simplify it, but Søren was prepared for things to get much, much more complicated, since ‘luck’ and ‘Rivea’ didn’t go well together if luck’s prefix word wasn’t ‘bad’. Shaking her head slightly, she pulled the weapon that her opponent had dropped from her belt and offered it to Callixta.
”I found this. Mind tucking it away somewhere for me? I would hate for our shiny green friend to reclaim it from me in the middle of battle.”

Callixta stopped about two or three feet away from Rivea as she stood and offered her a small smile.
”Rivea. I’m very glad to see you, little one.”
The mage’s smile widened and was clearly genuine as she looked the shorter girl over before glancing over to Søren.
”I’ve tracked them to Tamryn. The trail was not incredibly complex― either our target could not take the time to cover her tracks or she doesn’t know how. Or she intends us to follow her. It required very little time to uncover their final destination so I took he opportunity to question our guest.”
She paused for a moment before continuing.
”The woman’s name is Kauvrian, and apparently we need to be especially cautious in our dealings with her. Our guest, Viers, apparently has some experience with her. He made it seem if we push too hard she’ll go as far as to compromise herself to take anyone out. In a location like Tamryn, that could be dangerous.”
Callixta moved close enough to Rivea to raise a gloved hand to the side of her face and allow it to gently caress the girl’s smooth features.
”He really did send us the best.”
Her hand dropped and she turned to face the other Councilor more directly.
”Sending us Rivea is no small task. Our success may be more critical than we realize. We are to capture Syrkhan, and there was nothing regarding Kauvrian? Considering her proximity to the Mage if we have the chance we should destroy her.”
Callixta silently took the weapon Søren was handing to her and gave it a tap similar to what she’d used on Viers’ artifact. The object would be safe until the petite mage went to retrieve it.

Rivea rolled her eyes at Søren when she responded, but grinned sheepishly after. It wasn’t that the Unmade didn’t believe the Operative’s assertion, but Rivea also knew it was a little more complicated than that. Dai’shin was busy – really busy. Too busy to pay a lot of attention to her. Usually when that happened, he found the girl lots of little assignments, tasks, or at least playthings with which to keep her occupied while he was working on other things, but recently, he been too busy to even manage that. The situation made Rivea feel slightly put off, and Søren’s simplistic reassurances didn’t do much to change the fact that she was pouting.
Of course, attention wouldn’t stay on her too long, since Callixta had shown up. The Unmade’s ‘Auntie’ and the usually-divided white-haired woman were always close, and they had this way of talking to each other that made Rivea feel slightly sad, since no one really talked to her that way. She perked up, though, when Callixta addressed her, and then, after talking about how she found their targets in weird, mage-y terms, pet the girl affectionately. Callixta had never exactly made Rivea comfortable, but she was extremely pretty, and the way she was currently paying Rivea attention and compliments made the girl beam.
Rivea caught on to what the two were talking about – they were supposed to bring back one of the targets alive, which was less fun than killing them, but still potentially entertaining. The other one seemed to be the more dangerous of the two – someone who would go to extreme lengths to accomplish what they set out to do. Rivea didn’t have any admiration for the trait – it just sounded like that one was going to be stubborn, which meant she would probably make the Unmade angry. Rivea checked gloves while Callixta continued talking: if they couldn’t kill the one, hopefully they’d send the Unmade after the one without restrictions, considering that Rivea herself was aware of her propensity for accidentally breaking both toys and objectives. Sometimes the girl just got carried away.
When Callixta paused between sentences, Rivea quickly interjected, her words hurried and tumbling over themselves, as if she thought she would only have a few seconds with which to complete her thought and he wanted to get it all out.
“So, are we being sneaky? I can be sneaky – they don’t know we’re coming, right? Especially not me. So we can sneak in, find them, and then I’ll pounce them when they aren’t looking.”
Rivea grinned. She liked this plan – she felt she was good at being sneaky, so long as she could cover up her tattoos, which Dai’shin always pointed out made her stand out in crowds of normal people. The look on people’s faces when they were surprised was always fun to watch, especially when they are surprised you found them, and then try to hit you and realize that they aren’t strong enough to even make you flinch. The thought made Rivea giggle a little bit, though she bent over to check her boots while she did to keep the sound a bit more muffled.
She’d wait for instructions, of course – Søren was the one who was running the show, and the Unmade knew how to follow orders. Rivea was just getting antsy - her propensity for energetically bouncing side to side while other people talked would quickly demonstrate that to Søren and Callixta, assuming they kept talking for a while. As far as Rivea was concerned, they had a plan – a great plan. Now all they needed to do was hop over to Tamryn and find their targets.
Hopefully that wouldn’t take too long: Rivea was itching to play.

Søren listened carefully to Callixta, and then Rivea when she chimed in, while she considered the best option to take. The other Councilor’s appraisal of the situation was accurate – since Alpha hadn’t given any specific orders regarding ‘Kauvrian,’ it would be better to eliminate her, if possible, though the Fifth District Council Representative had a sneaking suspicion that the green woman would be very, very hard to eliminate. Considering that fact, Søren knew that they would have to prioritize completing their primary mission first, and deal with their secondary, self-decided objective if time and situation allowed.
Given those considerations, Rivea’s plan wasn’t exactly wrong, though Søren meant to tweak it in one very crucial way – when the women ‘pounced’ their targets, it would be Rivea’s job to keep Kauvrian occupied whilst Callixta and Søren grabbed the Marru’Khyran and delivered him to Alpha. Glancing between the two, Søren reached out and stroked the side of Rivea’s cheek with the back of her hand, smirking as she responded to the Unmade’s idea.
”That’s exactly what we should do. When we surprise them, Rivea, assuming we can, I need you to focus all of your attention on the woman. Keep her busy so Auntie Callixta and I can snatch the boy and finish our objective. Then, if you need a bit of help finishing Kauvrian off, we can circle back around and give you a hand.”
Søren turned back to Callixta and met the white-haired woman’s gaze.
“Do you have a place we can send the boy where he will keep until we are ready for him? I don’t want to drop him in Alpha’s lap, but we can if we have to.”
The Councilor would love to be a fly on the wall if an angry, battle-ready Marru’Khyran male were dropped right in Alpha’s office, but that particular tact might not be the very best way to go.
”Alternatively, we can try and knock him out, but I’m not sure how that works with his kind exactly.”

Molten amber eyes flickered back to Rivea when she interjected but the mage didn't respond immediately, instead waiting for Søren's input. When the other Councilor did speak Callixta eyed Rivea, checking her understanding of Søren's instructions. Her only contribution was a curt nod in agreement.
When Søren met her gaze and continued Callixta paused for a moment and stared off in the direction of the City, clearly considering her response.
"I don't want to 'drop him' in Alpha's lap either. I'd like a chance to question him before we turn him over to the Tower for whatever political parade he's to march in. Bringing him to the same space Viers is currently occupying is probably not a good idea. I'm hesitant to bring him to Peacekeeper Headquarters awake. . ."
Callixta shrugged.
"Or we could isolate him here in the mountains where he can't hurt anything and try to knock him out. His physiology can't be that different. . ."

The Unmade grinned at the suggestion her Auntie Søren made – if Rivea’s entire job hinged on keeping the female fighter occupied while Callixta scooped up their target, that meant that Alpha’s secret weapon would have at least a little unsupervised play time. That meant that poor, bored, cooped up Rivea would finally be able to let loose a little.
“Okay!” Yay!
The Unmade did her best to quickly cover up her mischievous grin with an expression she honestly thought made her look playful and innocent: in reality, Rivea’s face bore the same expression an anxious child’s might when she was playing nice while waiting for her parent to leave the room and, also, leave the easily-accessible cookie jar unprotected. Sensing that the conversation was already moving away from anything that she personally might have any valuable input on, Rivea turned her attention to examining her fingers while she carefully planned just how many bones she would break in Es’s body in order to put her into the optimal play configuration. Since the legs counted as at least four, the Unmade quickly started ticking off her fingers as she silently mouthed numbers, trying to get an accurate tally. She had to start over twice before she arrived at the number fourteen as a baseline: the forearms counted as two apiece also.
Assuming Søren and Callixta came to an agreement on strategy, they would find Rivea ready to go, though the Unmade would move on from counting after thirty seconds and instead start ruthlessly tracking a snail that was innocently crawling across the ground near the girl’s combat boots. Depending on how quickly they made a decision, poor mister snail might leave in one piece, or end up leaving in several.

Søren eyed Rivea when she responded excitedly to her given task, suppressing the smirk that naturally tried to break free and show on her face: the former Guardian never could quite get a handle on the way the diminutive Operative’s mind put things together, but Søren had been around Rivea enough to know that the mischievous expression the girl was currently trying to hide usually meant bad news. Hopefully, it would only be Kauvrian getting the bad news read to her, likely through the medium of Rivea’s fists. The Counselor shook her head slightly as she turned her attention back to Callixta: whatever Rivea ended up doing, there would be little that either woman could do to impede it, so it was best to plan for other eventualities, and just let the Unmade make her own way.
”That’s as good a plan as any. Shall we get moving, then? The longer we wait, the more time they have to prepare for our arrival.”
Søren was confident that she and her partner would still be the far better prepared of the two opposing groups, but she also wasn’t ready to underestimate their quarries just yet.
”If you can drop us at the outskirts of the city, I should be able to pinpoint where they are. Shall we?”

Callixta Trëguere caught the very brief expression on the petite juggernaut's face even as she tried to mask it. Amber eyes flickered in Søren's direction before the mage bent easily to put herself at eye level with Rivea.
"Rivea, the woman Kauvrian is very bad person. When you deal with her, remember that she is your target and no one else: no accidental killing of non-targets. We are the good ones, here to protect the citizens of Tamryn from the bad Kauvrian. If you make sure no else gets hurt your Auntie Sor-Sor and I will take you somewhere special as reward for your excellent work."
She offered a small smile in encouragement but mostly she watched Rivea for comprehension. To be fair, Callixta wasn't opposed to the ill treatment Kauvrian might suffer by Rivea's hands: the green bitch had already worked her way near the top of the mage's proverbial shit list. Unfortunately, it could potentially make life incredibly difficult for the Councilors and be a PR nightmare for Vascxious Sigma's influence in Tamryn. Though Callixta had no inclination to soften any news Fureya and her ilk might receive of their interference, the politics could prove tricky. The mage might not care for Alpha's machinations but he clearly had plans for Tamryn if his reception to her inroads was any indication.
Assuming Rivea required no prolonged elaboration Callixta straightened and turned to Søren.
"Shall we, then?"
She held out either hand so that Rivea and Søren could grab hold of her before proceeding to walk steadily forward. Within moments of both securing their hold on her, they'd simply melt away.

The snail’s adventure across the snowy wastes had begun well enough: hearty though it was, the creature had struggled to adapt and survive through the winter, and had taken to hibernating within its shell just beneath the surface of the snows, letting its body temperature cool off enough that it was essentially in stasis. It might have stayed that way all winter, too, had the rumbling of the avalanche, caused by some big concussive force or whatnot, sent the poor snail tumbling off the mountainside and sliding down the hill into the valley below. That meant it had to pick itself up, gets its wits back about it, and head off in search of a nice tree or bush to skim some nutrients off before trying to settle and go back to sleep. Therefore, it had begun its trek in earnest, hopeful and determined: until, that is, it found itself hoisted into the air by some crazy giant with big, brown eyes. As it struggled to attach its roving little feelers to something solid and get moving back in the direction it sincerely hoped contained a tree or two, the snail’s adventurous heart became filled far less with hope than it did fear and uncertainty – especially when the giant creature started shaking it back and forth, as if the beast was trying to get ther snail to do something exciting.
Rivea looked up from her snail-wiggling when Callixta kneeled down and addressed her. Not able to sufficiently focus on two things at once, the Unmade lightly flicked her wrist and sent the little creature hurtling back over her shoulder: the thing had just shlooped! back in its spiral-y shell, anyway, and was becoming substantially less interesting by the second.
Though the silver-headed mage choose her words carefully, as though speaking to a child, Rivea grasped the greater meaning behind both Callixta’s instruction and promise of a reward. Both Boss-man and Dai’Shin had scolded her for doing what they called ‘collateral damage,’ or accidentally hitting or killing other people besides the intended target. Rivea pouted at the implication – she really couldn’t help it! Everyone was so fragile, if the Unmade even tapped them or accidentally threw someone into a crowd, they just screamed and didn’t get back up, or bent in funny ways that made the girl giggle to herself. She knew it was bad when uninvolved people got all bendy-like and started yelling unintelligibly; at least, she knew she had been told that was the case, but she really didn’t think it was her fault. Besides, what fun was it to have to tiptoe around everyone that wasn’t her chosen target? Why couldn’t they just get stronger like her?
It made no sense to Rivea, but she still nodded to Callixta and stood up. “I’ll be good, Cally, I promise.” The Unmade certainly intended to keep her word – of course, that was also usually the case, and sometimes bad things happened anyway.
Rivea didn’t like the idea of playing the good guy so much, since good guys always seemed so boring, but she could treat it like a game. Rivea – defender of justice, triumph-er over the evil overlord Kauvrian, protector of the innocent! The Unmade grinned and puffed up her chest as she took Callixta’s hand, presumably to be teleported to their objective site.
Behind her, the snail managed to get its wits back after the toss enough to realize it had landed safely in a snow bank, just near the roots of a large tree. Unaware that it had nearly lost its life to a giant, the snail bravely set out to climb partway off the side of the tree and eat some moss.
Perhaps, if even by accident, Rivea could keep her promise this time.
